Fanart 100

Wed Jul 18, 2007, 9:27 PM
So, I was going to do so much work on my Fanart100 while I was on vacation.

You can guess how that went.

Well, that's not 100% true. I did do two sketches, Sound and Lovers. Sound is David sitting on one motherfucker of an amplifier, looking... pensive? I dunno. But the perspective is seriously off, and while I love his face, I am not in love with ANYTHING ELSE IN THE PICTURE. Especially the guitar, which, you know, as the focal point of the pic, should be pretty fucking good. And it isn't.

As for the Lovers, Charloette looks AWESOME, but I am so scared she won't survive inking. And Az and Pierre don't look that great. I love the concept of the piece, but I'm terrified (again) of fucking it up during inking. I might just leave it as pencil, scan, and try and darken the lineart in Photoshop.

God, I wish I had a graphics tablet. I'm not nearly a good enough artist to make adequate use of one, nor to justify the purchase... but it would make things so much easier.

I'm going SO slowly on this. I feel like I'm never going to finish... and the game ended almost a year ago. Of course, I've run out of material for the 100 Themes, too... And I have no new games that I'm inspired for. I have a TV series idea that I'd like to draw a sample for... but I can't draw well enough to make it come to life.

Bleh.

I'm also affraid that I'd screw up my pics while inking.
That's why I use a very very thin sharpie. 0,1 mm or something. Because, if I make a mistake, I still can correct it with a thicker pen.
Maybe you should try something like that too?

Don't feel bad about taking a while, I think most people do (I've been sitting two steps from the finishline for like 8 months). But I think, game being over and everything, you've still got to go for it. The accomplishment will be so rad :D

And hey, perspective and inking are damned hard! I'm of the belief if you fake them with confidence, you'll be fine.

Yeah, I try and use a very thin marker too, but sometimes my hand just slips and whatever "it" was that made the picture right... vanishes. I think it happened on Spade, and it'll probably happen on Lovers.

I can't draw, but it's fun to pretend.

I think my original plan was something like one every ten days. Given that they take me about 4 hours to complete, that didn't seem like it would be hard. I am SO lagging on that, though.

Yeah, it's just those little slips of the hand that screw it up that get me. :/

I know what you mean! It happened to one of my pics too. I mean, the sketch looked just perfect, but after inking, it was different. Even though it was basically the same, as you said "it" disappeared.

You'd think it wouldn't, but then keep in mind it's only 4 hours once you know what you're doing and you're all inspired/motivated. That's the bitchy part to accomplish.

Tell me about it :/

This is very true. Though I wish I had my scanner up and running; at least then I could colour the two I do have, make myself feel semi-productive.

*nodnod* :/
